Job Summary:
The Plumbing Estimator is responsible for accurately estimating and preparing cost estimates for plumbing projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to project specifications. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. The Plumbing Estimator will collaborate closely with project managers, clients, and subcontractors to ensure accurate cost estimation and project success.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Review project plans, specifications, and drawings to understand project scope and requirements.
2. Analyze and interpret plumbing project blueprints and drawings to determine material, labor, and equipment costs.
3. Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates by calculating labor, material, and subcontractor costs.
4. Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to identify potential risks, challenges, and cost-saving opportunities.
5. Obtain and review subcontractor quotes and bids to ensure competitive pricing and adherence to project specifications.
6. Communicate and negotiate with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to secure the best pricing and terms for materials and services.
7. Prepare and present cost estimates, proposals, and bid packages to clients, project managers, and other stakeholders.
8. Assist in the development and maintenance of a comprehensive cost database and historical records for future reference.
9. Participate in project meetings and provide regular updates on cost estimation progress and any potential changes.
10. Collaborate with project managers and team members to identify value engineering opportunities and cost-effective solutions.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. High school diploma or equivalent. A vocational or technical degree in plumbing or related field is preferred.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in plumbing estimating or a related role within the construction industry.
3. In-depth knowledge of plumbing systems, codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
4. Strong mathematical and analytical skills to accurately estimate costs and quantities.
5. Proficient in reading and interpreting plumbing blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
6. Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify potential discrepancies or inconsistencies in project documentation.
7. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
8. Proficient in using computer-aided estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
9. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
10. Knowledge of local building codes and regulations related to plumbing systems is desirable.
